چکیده

Real-time occlusion handling is a major problem in outdoor mixed reality system because it requires great computational cost mainly due to the complexity of the scene. Using only segmentation, it is dicult to accurately render a virtual object occluded by complex objects such as trees, bushes etc. In this paper, we propose a novel occlusion handling method for real-time, outdoor, and omnidirectional mixed reality system using only the information from a monocular image sequence. We €rst present a semantic segmentation scheme for predicting the amount of visibility for di‚erent type of objects in the scene. We also simultaneously calculate a foreground probability map using depth estimation derived from optical ƒow. Finally, we combine the segmentation result and the probability map to render the computer generated object and the real scene using a visibility-based rendering method. Our results show great improvement in handling occlusions compared to existing blending based methods.

Segmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering

Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...

Ray Space Factorization for From-Region Visibility

We present a fast conservative from-region visibility method capable of handling 3D models using arbitrary 3D triangles as occluders. The from-region visibility problem is considered significantly harder than the from-point visibility problem, since it is inherently 4-dimensional. Our occlusion culling method is based on factorizing the 4D visibility problem into horizontal and vertical compone...

Real-time Volume Rendering for High Quality Visualization in Augmented Reality

Recent advances in the field of computer graphics have enabled extremely fast and high quality rendering of volumetric data. However, these algorithms have been developed and optimized for visualization on single view displays, and not for stereoscopic augmented reality systems. In this paper, we present our implementation and results for the integration of a high quality hardware accelerated v...

Image-based rendering for mixed reality

In this paper, we propose an image-based approach to synthesize a novel view image for mixed reality (MR) systems. Theoretically, the imagebased method is good for synthesizing realistic images, but it is difficult to achieve interactive handling of the object. As a solution, we propose a new method based on the “surface light field rendering” technique . With this method, we can synthesize the...

A Semi-Automated Algorithm for Segmentation of the Left Atrial Appendage Landing Zone: Application in Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Procedures

Background: Mechanical occlusion of the Left atrial appendage (LAA) using a purpose-built device has emerged as an effective prophylactic treatment in patients with atrial fibrillation at risk of stroke and a contraindication for anticoagulation. A crucial step in procedural planning is the choice of the device size. This is currently based on the manual analysis of the “Device Landing Zone” fr...
